Nature and naturalness have been strong trends for many years in the restaurant scene. Honest cuisine made from fresh ingredients, preferably regional, vegetarian or vegan, good for the body and mind, is sought-after. To make sure that guests can experience this pleasure with all their senses, the food is showcased on a special stage: natural stone is in great demand. Slate, a natural stone that is in demand, consistently shows new patterns, structures and patterns in its many rock layers. The color spectrum, ranging from black to green through to orange, was created millions of years ago when many different metals between the layers oxidized. For THE ROCK range, Villeroy & Boch translated the characteristic, raw structure of German slate into an unusual design using modern manufacturing technologies. Decorative highlight: the transition area between the lip and the coupe recreates the brittle chipped edge, which used to be worked on by a hammer in the traditional production of shingles. The typical, lightly splinted structure of this edge was adapted for THE ROCK to provide an artisanal look while giving the plates additional authenticity. All THE ROCK products from Villeroy & Boch have a solid-colored biscuit porcelain and a special glaze. The range plays with two different structures: All coupe parts are decorated with a fine slate relief over the entire surface, which looks very real and accentuates the sleek design. Plates and saucers that have a lip and well only have the relief structure on the lip. The visible edges in the transition area from well to lip have a chipped edge. THE ROCK is available in two colors inspired by the natural stone colors of slate. The deep black Black Shale and the White Glacier allow food to be enhanced visually and served with a colorful wow effect. New products joined the existing range of THE ROCK in 2019, extending its versatility. Glass breakfast and mocha cups beautifully complement the black and white ceramic saucers, their stylish mix of materials creating quite a stir on the table. A bowl and a shallow bowl round off the range. Thanks to the new products, THE ROCK can now also be used at breakfast, coffee or tea time, and no longer just for lunch or dinner. Villeroy & Boch’s THE ROCK was adapted to selected products and existing shapes of Dune and Marchesi, so the range can be mixed and matched creatively with other pieces or simply integrated into an existing set.

Last year, we reported on the beautiful custom china that Villeroy & Boch had created for passengers dining aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train traveling to Venice. This time, the custom creativity that Villeroy & Boch brings to the dining table travels to Southeast Asia.
The restaurants on the Eastern & Oriental Express are equipped with customized tableware by Villeroy & Boch adorned with a golden application displaying the logo of the luxury train. The décor has been applied to Premium Bone Porcelain tableware from the successful Stella Hotel collection with its elegant, classical form and extremely delicate appearance. The travel experience of the Eastern & Oriental Express is rendered unforgettable not only by the exotic routes the train takes but especially by the uniquely high-quality facilities and the culinary offerings on board. The fine pine-green and gold décor of the custom china from Villeroy & Boch picks up on the colors of the Eastern & Oriental Express and thus creates a unified design aesthetic characterized by the highest standards of originality and exclusivity. The dinner plates, cups and saucers are decorated with a delicate green and gold border and feature the image of a tiger, an integral element of the Eastern & Oriental Express logo representing power, strength and dynamism. The logo itself with the initials E&O is also displayed on the left rim of the dinner plates. At lunchtime and in the evening, meals featuring exclusive, seasonal specialties are available in the two restaurant cars. Breakfast is served on the fine porcelain directly in the cabins. Light snacks and drinks may be enjoyed from 7am in the open observation car at the end of the train. Villeroy & Boch has been luxury travel collection Belmond’s preferred supplier for tableware since 2014, supplying not only the Eastern & Oriental Express but also the company’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train in Europe. Nicolas Pillet, General Manager of the Eastern & Oriental Express comments, “We are delighted to be working with Villeroy & Boch. They have an excellent reputation in the market and have designed and produced beautiful crockery that complements the surroundings of the colonial style carriages.” “We are proud to be part of the original and exclusive experience that is awaiting travellers on board the Eastern & Oriental Express, and look forward to further successful cooperations with the Belmond Group,” says Vittorio Rossetti, Sales Manager Villeroy & Boch for Hotel & Restaurant in Italy and the designer of the décor at the same time. Villeroy & Boch Adds to Luxury Dining to Aboard Eastern & Oriental Express Villeroy & Boch and Bocuse D'Or Organizers Meet and Discuss 2016-7 Competition Sponsorship12/7/2015
Nicolas Luc Villeroy, CEO Tableware Unit at Villeroy & Boch AG (middle left), was happy to welcome Florent Suplisson, Gastronomy Event Director (middle right), and Marie Montabonel, sponsoring manager (2nd from left), both from GL Events Exhibi-tions, which is organizing the contest. The event was also attended on behalf of Villeroy & Boch (Hotel & Restaurant Division) by Global Sales Director Burkhard Schmidt, Marketing Director Jochen Stähler, and Georges Schmitz, International Key Account Manager. The organizers of the world famous competition of the top of international gastronomy – Bocuse d’Or – and the Hotel & Restaurant Division of Villeroy & Boch gathered recently for an official meeting as part of the 2016/2017 cycle. At Castle Saareck at the headquarters of Villeroy & Boch in Mettlach, Germany, details of the collaboration for the current competition were discussed. For many years, Villeroy & Boch has provided the official competition tableware, which this year comes from the new ARTESANO Professionale collection. The impressively designed, round plates offer chefs plenty of space to present their creations with sophistication, thanks to their size and simple, yet surprising design. Flatware from the Villeroy & Boch series OSCAR and glasses from the series PURISMO complete the table setting. The big finale of the competition will take place on January 24th and 25th, 2017 in Lyon during the Sirha trade show. The regional elimination round for Europe, the Asia-Pacific and Latin American will take place in 2016. Villeroy & Boch was already present at the national elimination round this year in France and Belgium, for example. High-quality tableware with special decorative designs – With the Special Design creative design service the Hotel & Restaurant Division at Villeroy & Boch can meet individual customer decoration needs for plates, glasses, cutlery and accessories. The food at some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world is served on Special Design dinnerware from Villeroy & Boch. The international references now also include the legendary Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes on the French Riviera.
The highlight is the anniversary plate, designed to celebrate the 100th birthday of the hotel: The lifesaver that dominates the Eden-Roc logo was stylishly designed and placed in a geometric pattern on the edge of the plate – elegantly surrounded by thin, golden fillets. The result is an extremely fine and delicate decor that covers the complete edge. The combination of the gold and white emphasizes the nobility of the porcelain. A special eye-catcher is in the center of the plate: The Eden-Roc logo completely in gold. The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc …... "Villa Soleil" was the original name….was built as a private residence for artists and writers in 1863. In 1870 the building opened its gates as a hotel. After changing hands several times, the Italian hotel manager Antoine Sella bought the run-down hotel and opened it as the Hotel du Cap after extensive renovations in January 1889. The international high society soon discovered the place: Marlene Dietrich, Pablo Picasso, Edward VIII. and Wallis Simpson are just a few of the celebrity guests. In 1914, the Eden-Roc Pavilion was built on the cliffs at the lower end of the maritime park. Since then, the Hotel du Cap and the Eden-Roc Pavilion have formed a single entity. In 1969, RudolfAugust Oetker bought the hotel and since 2012 it has belonged to Oetker Hotel Management Group. Before celebrating its 100th birthday in 2014 the estate needed to be modernized once again. Today, the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc is a popular vacation spot on the Côte d‘Azur, particularly in summer when international grandees from politics, business and film come to stay. New for 2015, Villeroy & Boch's Hotel & Restaurant Division has introduced their latest hotel and restaurant collections ARTESANO Professionale and ARTESANO Barista. Authentic, sophisticated and unpretentious, ARTESANO Professionale’s stylish yet relaxed design is perfect for a laidback approach to fine dining. Boasting a strong character epitomised in both design and feel, the tableware is appealing to the wider hospitality industry. Sure to inspire new styles of presentation, ARTESANO Professionale’s hexagonal plates are perfect for salads and tapas, while the acacia wood and slate tiered trays offer original and striking ways to present multiple dishes. Introducing natural and rustic touches to table, the series cleverly combines pure white Premium Porcelain alongside organic materials. Nick Green, National Sales & Marketing Manager of Villeroy & Boch's Hotel & Restaurant Division in the U.K. says “2015 is going to be an exciting year for us with the launch of Artesano Professionale and Artesano Barista. The simple and authentic design of Artesano creates scope for stylish yet relaxed culinary presentation, providing a platform for creative interpretation. I’m certain that our customers will love it as much as we do!” Villeroy & Boch's new ARTESANO Barista collection provides the ideal equipment for any barista and is specially designed to ensure optimal development of aroma and crema, creating a perfect cup of tea or coffee. The range includes stackable cups in various sizes, heat and cold resistant borosilicate glassware ideal for latte macchiatos or chai lattes and a stylish glass teapot with a stainless steel strainer, and large mugs made from Villeroy & Boch's Premium Porcelain or glass.

In the 2014/2015 competition as well, Villeroy & Boch provided the official competition plates. The round plates with a diameter of 31.5 cm from the successful collection “Affinity” offered the chefs plenty of space to present their sophisticated dishes thanks to its large size. In addition to the current competition plates this year once again there was a Bocuse d’Or collector’s plate from Villeroy & Boch in limited edition for all par-ticipants of the competition as well as guests of the gala dinner on the night of the final. The special décor comes from the brush of the French artist and designer Alain Vavro, who has been developing the décor for the collector’s plates since 1995, which is personally approved by Paul Bocuse.
The Villeroy & Boch Hotel & Restaurant Division has been closely connected to the world-renowned cooking competition for many years. Villeroy & Boch is a Membre associé du Bocuse d’Or and has been producing the popular Bocuse d’Or event plates for many years Launching next week at The Hospitality Show in Birmingham, new Janda dinnerware from Villeroy & Boch's Hotel & Restaurant Division is a multifunctional and extremely robust dinnerware series that has been designed with food presentation in mind, featuring attractive floral and geometric motifs in a delicate pistachio hue. A sophisticated Villeroy & Boch production process subtly elevates the pattern from the glaze to create a light, stunning design that enhances professional cuisine. The stylish leaf pattern of Janda reveals a beautiful raised texture which adds a refined character to the dining table, while the Janda Diamond design offers a timeless elegance. Both designs work perfectly with the Villeroy & Boch's Bella, Easy and Corpo ranges, creating harmonious settings that bring white porcelain and natural style into a graceful balance.

This year, Villeroy & Boch is again providing the official plates for the famous Bocuse d’Or competition. The round plates with a diameter of 31.5 cm from the AFFINITY collection introduced in 2013 will present the culinary art of the international chef participants in fitting style. Thanks to its size it gives the chefs plenty of space to present their dishes…..first in the national and regional preliminary rounds in 2014 and then in the Final in Lyon in 2015. AFFINITY from Villeroy & Boch and its elegantly formed rim draws attention to the generous surface of the plate making a perfect stage for the compositions of culinary artists. The AFFINITY collection is also elegant and lightweight, making it an ideal product for sophisticated gastronomy.
In order to gain one of the coveted places in the final in Lyon (27-28 January 2015), top chefs from all over the world competed in the 18-month long preliminaries. National rounds in 60 countries culminated in the three regional competitions Bocuse d’Or Europe, Bocuse d’Or Asia-Pacific and Bocuse d’Or Latin America. The 24 talented chefs who have qualified for the final originate from Spain, Denmark, Japan, Canada, Argentina, Germany, France and many other countries. They will have to prove their culinary abilities by preparing a fish and a meat course. Thus, for instance, the focus of the meat theme at the final is the 'pintade fermier' – guinea fowl. The Bocuse d’Or focuses on creative and sophisticated gastronomy that is committed to product selection, preparation and the presentation of dishes of the highest quality. The declared goals are the development of younger chefs and searching for new talent. The participants of the Bocuse d’Or are the stars of tomorrow and the competition is their platform for reaching a world audience. And this is where Villeroy & Boch’s involvement in this special competition enters into the mix. “We support the most renowned cooking competition in the world because at Bocuse d’Or the best of today meet the best of tomorrow turning the spotlight on new methods of culinary artistry for all the world to see. With our high quality tableware we are contributing to making sure that the presentation of their culinary achievements is perfectly executed,” says Nicolas Luc Villeroy, Board Member for Tableware at Villeroy & Boch. The Bocuse d’Or also offers Villeroy & Boch the opportunity to take notice of new cooking trends early on and to develop tableware series or special products based on these trends that can provide the creations of outstanding gourmet chefs an adequate stage.
